    Randy Gieseking, CHSP

    President

    Randy Gieseking was named the President of Safety Management Group in January 2015 and prior to this he served as the Vice President of Safety Services. In this role, Randy provides leadership and support for our safety service teams, which includes 8 Team Managers and over 100 safety professionals. Prior to becoming Vice President of Services, he served as the Service Team Manager for the Owner Services Team at a global pharmaceutical company and our Health Services Team at IU Health.

    Following graduation, Randy was a safety consultant for Heritage Group Safety Services (Indianapolis), served as the Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator for Reynolds Aluminum (Auburn) and later became the Regional Environmental Health and Safety Manager for Reynolds Auburn and Lebanon (VA) facilities.

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Health and Safety Management from Indiana State University in December 1992.
    • Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) designation in June 2007.

    Outside of work Randy enjoys spending time with his Wife Laura and their 2 daughters. Randy has coached youth basketball and softball and enjoys time on the golf links as well as hunting in the fall and winter months.

  • Ron Hanson

    Vice President, Operations

    Ron Hanson joined Safety Management Group in 1994 and is the Vice President of Operations. He provides support for the Company’s Legal, Accounting, Business Development, Recruiting, Human Resources, and Information Technology areas.

    Ron received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Safety Management from Indiana State University in 1993 and held the designation of Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals from 2001-2015. He served as the Secretary/ Treasurer for the Indiana Subcontractors Association (ISA) from 2012-2015 and was on the Board of Directors from 2008-2015.  Previously he served on the Board of Directors for the Metro Indianapolis Construction Coalition for Safety (MICCS).

    During his first years with the organization, Ron assisted with management of the Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) for a large pharmaceutical conglomerate in Lafayette, IN and Indianapolis, IN. During this time he was responsible for the safe construction of a $300 million Laboratory Process Expansion, a $71 million Laboratory Building, and over $250 million in related maintenance projects at both facilities. From 2002-2005, Ron managed the safe delivery of a $500 million project that included a chemical pilot plant, biotechnical research laboratory and an administrative building for a global pharmaceutical company based in Indianapolis.

    In addition to the pharmaceutical OCIP projects, Ron oversaw the construction safety of the $198 million Conseco Fieldhouse and Virginia Avenue Parking Structure for the City of Indianapolis.
    Over his career, Ron has also been involved with numerous projects involving the automobile industry for clients such as Honda, Toyota, Navistar, Mitsubishi, Johnson Controls, and many other related clients and suppliers throughout the country. Several of these projects involved press, die cast, and robotics installations and overhauls.

    Ron is married and has two daughters. His interests include the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indianapolis 500, golfing and spending time with his family.

    Jesse Brazzell, CHST

    Safety Services Manager

    Jesse Brazzell joined Safety Management Group in 1997 and is the Manager of Safety Services.

    His duties include:

    • Providing support to the Safety Services group
    • Meeting with prospective clients, existing clients, and various associations
    • Securing and updating service contract agreements
    • Develop proposals
    • Scheduling delivery of safety services (consulting, training, auditing, program/policy development)

     

     

     

     

     

     

    The Construction Team services over 30 clients including General Contractors, Specialty Trade Contractors, and providing Loss Control Services to multiple Insurance companies. The Construction Team performs a variety of services for these clients including jobsite inspections, developing written safety materials, assisting with the OSHA inspection process, and performing general safety awareness training.

    Bobby Pirtle

    Financial Officer

    Bobby joined Safety Management Group in 2000 and served as a safety advisor, operations manager, talent sourcer, and currently oversees the accounting department as Financial Officer.

    Prior to Safety Management Group, Bobby served as the Safety Director of Triangle Insulation and Sheet Metal Company of Paducah, Kentucky for 11 years.

  • Kent Burget, CHST

    Chairman

    Kent received his Bachelor of Science degree in Personnel and Industrial Relations from Auburn University of Alabama in 1985. Kent returned to Auburn University (1987 – 1989) to continue his education in Construction Technology while gaining practical experience in the field.

    Kent is a certified 10 & 30 Hour OSHA instructor in Occupational Safety and Health Practices for the construction industry. Kent has also received his Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) designation.PT2013IMAG2174(1)

    Safety Management Group has enjoyed prosperity and has been fortunate to assist some of Indianapolis’ largest owners in safely completing their construction projects (i.e. Clarian Health Partners – Riley Outpatient Center, City of Indianapolis – Conseco Fieldhouse, Eli Lilly and Company – all capital projects). Safety Management Group is also currently assisting the Indianapolis Airport Authority in building the New Indianapolis Airport.

    To assist these types of projects, Safety Management Group employs over 100 full-time safety advisors with experience in safety training, written safety and health programs, industrial safety, and safety management of construction projects.

    Kent has received the Association of General Contractor of Indiana (AGCI) Excellence in Team Building Award for Safety. The Metro Indianapolis Coalition for Construction Safety, Inc. (MICCS) also recognized Kent by presenting him with their Safety Leader Award, and in 2005, their Board of Directors Award. Kent was also recognized in 2005 as a finalist in the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.

    Kent is a member of the Association of Building Contractors (ABC), Association of General Contractors (AGC), Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis (BAGI), the Metro Indianapolis Coalition of Construction Safety (MICCS), the Greater Lafayette Council of MICCS (GLC of MICCS), the Indiana Constructors Roundtable (ICR), the Indiana Subcontractor Association (ISA) and the Indiana Nursery and Landscape Association (INLA), the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and subsequently volunteers time to assist these organizations by participating in the organizations’ board of directors and safety committees.BBBaward2008

    Mike Martin

    Account Manager

    Mike Martin joined Safety Management Group in 2001 and currently manages a team delivering services to the Power Utilities industry.  Prior to leading this team, he managed the Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) at the New Indianapolis Airport Project in Indianapolis, IN and also served as a Global Facilities Delivery project Safety Advisor for the Owner Services Group.

    He is a 1998 Graduate of Indiana State University with a B.S. in Health and Safety Management and has obtained the Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification and Certified Utility Safety Professional designation.

    Before joining Safety Management Group, Mike worked for Graycor Industrial Contractors, Inc. at several projects including: A.K. Steel (Rockport), U.S. Steel (Gary), Wisconsin Electric Power (Port Washington/Kenosha), Aux Sable, Inc., and Daimler-Chrysler Corp (Indianapolis).

    J. Mark Steinhofer, CHST, CUSP, CSP

    Manager of Special Services

    Mark has held positions in the field of Occupational Safety and Health since 1997 beginning his career as a Quality/ Safety Engineer for General Electric (Louisville, KY). At GE he was involved with all health and safety programs related to Job Hazard Analysis (JSA), Six Sigma, ergonomics, as well as managing numerous training programs. He continued his career with Danis Environmental Industries (St. Petersburg, FL) as a Safety Engineer. At Danis Mark was responsible for planning and organizing site-wide safety programs, as well as safety auditing, training, environmental aspects and contractor safety. Since becoming a part of Safety Management Group in 2000, Mark has managed safety advisors and worked with a multitude of diverse clients within the pharmaceutical, construction, chemical, utility, and general industries.

    In addition to holding positions as a Site Safety Advisor, Manager of Special Projects, and Environmental Manager at Safety Management Group, Mark has also consulted as an expert witness in several court cases, and is currently an adjunct professor at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis teaching an undergraduate course in construction safety and the OSHA standards. Mark is a certified 10 & 30 Hour OSHA instructor in Occupational Safety and Health Practices for the construction industry, has experience in ISO 14001/18001Lead Auditor training, and has received his Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Certified Utilities Safety Professional (CUSP) as well as his Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation.

    Chris Mitchell, CSP, CHST

    Account Manager – Owner Services

    Chris Mitchell joined Safety Management Group in October 2001 and currently serves as the Account Manager for Owner Services.

    Within the Owner Services team, Chris had previously served as the Prequalification Services Advisor, Owner Statewide Advisor, Laboratory Research Advisor, and Site Safety Advisor.

    Chris received his Bachelors degree in Safety Management from Indiana State University in 1997.

    Chris earned his Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation in April 2006 and also maintains a Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) designation.

    Chris has served as a Field Tech for Valley Environmental Testing (Terre Haute), as a Safety Engineer/Tech for Farm Fans, Inc. in Indianapolis, and completed an internship with the Indiana Department of Transportation.

    He also currently holds a position on the MICCS Substance Abuse Oversight Committee.

    Robb Tinney

    Account Manager – West Division

    Robb Tinney is the West Division Manager for Safety Management Group. He also serves as account manager for Global Contract Manufacturing, Inc., Pioneer Seeds, The Haskell Company, Mullen Crane & Transport, Inc., Orgill/Singer & Associates, and services a number of smaller clients primarily based in California and Nevada. Robb also provides loss control services for the State of Nevada and State agencies located in Las Vegas, NV and surrounding area.
    In 2006, Robb was a safety advisor with the safety staffing team within Safety Management Group, and was assigned to a large OCIP project in the Lake Tahoe, Northern California area.
    Robb originally joined Safety Management Group in 2001 and has provided services for the special projects group and the safety services group. He also managed the Loss Control Services Team for Safety Management Group.
    Robb received his Safety Degree from ISU and has extensive experience in the General Industry field as a Safety Engineer for Mitchel & Scott Machine. Robb’s work at M&S included program development, training, environmental activities, and ISO Certification preparation.
    Robb is an authorized OSHA outreach trainer for the OSHA 10 hour and 30 hour construction courses, authorized W110 trainer for Work at Height Rescue, and certified OHSAS 18001 Provisional Auditor.

    Craig Clark

    Manager

    Craig holds an Associate degree in Construction Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety. He has been a safety advisor for the past 16 years. For the last two years, Craig has focused his attention on assisting with the management of the Safety Staffing team at Safety Management Group. Craig is a safety at height and aerial rescue instructor, teaches competent person fall protection, LOTO and has instructed trades across the United States.

    Craig has managed multiple types of projects across the country and hopes to share his successes and failures with others.

     

    Dave Schuster, CHST

    Account Manager

    Dave started with Safety Management Group in January of 2001 as Safety Advisor. Dave is currently a Safety Adviser and Manager with the Safety Staffing team at one of our largest clients in the Pharmaceutical Industry. Dave currently provides leadership for a team of 6 safety advisors supporting multiple clients in the construction industry.

    Dave has received a B.S. in Industrial Health and Safety Management from Indiana State University, and has achieved the Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification.

    Prior to working with Safety Management Group, Dave was a Health and Safety Director for II in One Contractors, a Chicago based General Contractor, as well as a Safety Supervisor for Meade Electric in Joliet, Illinois.

    To assist these types of projects, Safety Management Group employs over 100 full-time safety advisors with experience in safety training, written safety and health programs, industrial safety, and safety management of construction projects.

    Doug Schumann, CSP, CHST

    Account Manager

    Doug joined Safety Management Group in 2003 as a safety consultant. Since starting, he has worked in various business units within our Owner Services group providing both, Advisor and Team Leader, services at a large pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. In 2015 he transitioned to an Account Manager role at medical device facility in Indianapolis where he oversees a team providing oversight for large capital construction projects as well as facilities maintenance and construction.

    Before starting with Safety Management Group Doug spent 9 years traveling the Midwestern and Eastern United States with an industrial contractor out of Pittsburgh that provided heavy construction services to the steel industry as well as building new coal and gas fired power plants. During his time there he held various field and management roles.

    During his career, Doug has worked to earn the professional designations of Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) Doug also has been working closely with the Metropolitan Indianapolis Coalition for Construction Safety (MICCS) since 2004 helping coordinate volunteers and performing site audits for the annual MICCS construction industry banquet and awards ceremony.

    Ronald Eastham, CHSP

    Safety Advisor

    Ron began working for Safety Management Group in May 2013 as a Safety Advisor on our Health Services Team at IU Health. Ron currently provides leadership for a team of safety advisors for large capital construction projects as and facilities maintenance projects.

    Prior to joining Safety Management Group, Ron spent 12 years at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin, IN as the Safety & Security Officer. Ron is well versed in the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) and The Joint Commission Standards (JCAHO).

    Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) designation in August 2007.
